Section Eleven · The Journey
Interview mastery for AI roles
Know your story. Prepare. Research. Communicate clearly.
Before the interview
Research the company
What does the product do? Who are their customers? What stage is the company? Who will interview you?
Know your story
A clear, concise narrative. Who are you? Why are you transitioning? What do you bring? Practice until it feels natural. Build it with the Elevator Pitch Builder (Appendix D).
Prepare examples
Three to five stories from your dental career that demonstrate transferable skills.
The STAR method
| Step | What to do | Example |
|---|---|---|
| S — Situation | Set the context | "I was the lead hygienist at a practice implementing new digital imaging." |
| T — Task | Your responsibility | "I was responsible for training the team." |
| A — Action | What you did | "I created a manual, led workshops, and set up a feedback system." |
| R — Result | The outcome | "Trained in two weeks. Retakes dropped 40% in the first month." |
Tell stories.
Closing the interview
- Thank them for their time.
- Ask: "Is there anything about my background that gives you hesitation?"
- Address the concern directly.
- Ask: "What are the next steps?"
Questions to ask
- Who is the ideal candidate for this role?
- How do I compare to what you are looking for?
- Are there any hesitations about my candidacy?
- What does success look like in 90 days?
- What are the biggest challenges facing the team?
- What is the timeline for a decision?
